In order to better encourage scientific endeavors in North Dakota, the North Dakota Geological Society has established a variety of funding opportunities.
The Rocky Mountain Section – AAPG Foundation, which was established by the AAPG (American Association of Petroleum Geologists) Rocky Mountain Section, allows the Society to offer reimbursement to student AAPG chapters for the purpose of attending the AAPG annual meeting when it is hosted within the area overseen by the Rocky Mountain Section (Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, New Mexico (with the exception of the southeastern corner), Nevada, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming). Currently, the only active AAPG student chapter is located at the University of North Dakota (UND). The annual RMS AAPG meeting for 2023 is to be held in Bismarck.
The second, is through the “Teacher of the Year” award which is also associated with the AAPG Rocky Mountain Section. Any K-12 Earth Science teachers in North Dakota may be nominated.
For many years the NDGS has been the proud sponsor of two awards for a "Project in Field of Geology or Earth Science"
